Introducing junaio 2.0

As CTO of metaio I am pleased to present you with a special edition of our monthly newsletter, fully dedicated to our completely revised augmented reality browser junaio.

junaio can be downloaded from the app store and brings AR to the customer’s daily lives, i.e. on the displays of their cell phones. We put all our technical know-how and effort into the development and the result is one of the best augmented reality-browsers on the market right now. Now we thought it is time to bring you as AR-experts and -fans up to speed. We would like to provide you with an insight into the latest developments at junaio and give you examples of how you and your customers can benefit best from all cool features we integrated. It's easy to get started with junaio. All you need to do is to download junaio from the app store - it’s free and gives you endless opportunities to discover the world in your personal way - Make the world yours and download the app now!

Look for restaurants, cafés, cinemas or cultural sights. We've already set up channels for you, so you can choose what information you want to see. You decide which channels to subscribe to and then begin searching for hot spots in your area. You can easily create your own channel and share hot spots with friends.

With junaio’s open API, developers can create state of the art augmented reality applications. You don’t need any experience in programming for embedded systems. Challenge your imagination and contribute to junaio’s exciting world with AR Mashups, multiplayer games and scavenger hunts, interactive, indoor and outdoor exhibitions, tours with animated 3D characters or location independent gaming. All you need to do as a developer is to register for an API key and start challenging your creativity.

You can not only win $5,000 but we will also invite the winner to our metaio Technology Fair to visit with us and to attend the world-famous Oktoberfest in Munich.

• Become creative and set up your own channel before June 16, 2010
• The 5 channels with the most subscribers on June 16 will be shortlisted and an independent jury will select a winner

One of our first content providers is BART, the US-based transportation provider for the San Francisco area. With the integration of a BART channel on junaio 2.0 the customer can now get directions to the nearest BART location and a list of estimated arrivals for the next several trains to his destination, simply by pointing phone's camera. junaio doesn't stop there, users can tag places in the real world and recommend them to friends. For example, a rider coming out of the Montgomery BART Station in San Francisco could see recommendations left by friends for restaurants or shops that are nearby. Watch the video on youtube
