2010 - The Year of Augmented Reality

We share the opinion of experts and enthusiasts around the globe: The upcoming year will be a breakthrough for augmented reality. After much hype in the tech-sphere during 2009 – with raising AR-related articles on Google search from 1 Mil. to more than 3.6 Mil. in one year – the technology will finally fulfill its promises*.

We look forward to more creative games, effective and innovative industrial scenarios and cutting-edge mobile applications in the markets of retail, advertising, research, and industries, just to name a few. We would love to further develop the augmented world together with you!

Yours sincerely,

Thomas Alt, CEO metaio

Benchmark your Tracking Quality

Tracking Benchmark

metaio is committed to research work and along with our engagement in various German and EU research projects, we have a proposal to the research community. As “template based tracking lacks benchmark data sets allowing a fair comparison between state-of-the-art algorithms” (according to the associated ISMAR 2009 paper) we have designed an evaluation scheme for object detection and inter-frame tracking algorithms and used the image sequences to apply this scheme to several state-of-the-art algorithms. The image sequences are freely available for testing, submitting and evaluating new template-based tracking algorithms. Now researchers can benchmark and objectively quantify their tracking results and share or compare these with others in the AR research community.
