junaio API

Our CTO, Peter Meier, announced the opening of the junaio API at the AR Development Camp this past Saturday in Mountain View, CA. Beginning December 7th, developers can use the new interface to build their own applications that interact with the junaio platform. The open API includes enhanced features such as the ability for users to see multiple categories of information at once and the ability to interact with the data. Unifeye Design

Since its launch in the iPhone App store on November 12th, we have already seen very cool, creative scenes and content generated by users. In the first 3 days, there were 1400+ users and 2500+ pictures published on the junaio platform. The response from the community has been positive, see below for snippets from the press and our users.

“Junaio is more ambitious…It captures the spirit of AR better than most” -John Herrman, Gizmodo

“The potential for a similar product above an augmented reality layer is finally possible with Junaio” -Dana Oshiro, ReadWriteWeb

“Extremely cool app if you want to experiment with 3D augmented reality…junaio’s very cool and fun…think of it as a creative, social, and fun app” -Ujiin, App Store Review

Roadmap to the future

For version 1.0, we let users create the content (pictures, web links, or twitter messages) and place them into the real world. In version 1.5 (to be released soon), we are making a push to increase the social network aspects of junaio by allowing users to rate and comment on others’ scenes.

Early next year, users will be able to view multiple categories of information at one time. For example, you can select to see restaurants, manga shops, kabuki theatres around you, all in one view. Additionally, we will introduce capabilities to let you interact with the data, so AR games will be possible. Currently, the junaio client is running on iPhone and will soon be available on Android and Symbian early next year.

Other features of 1.5 include:

  • Access to Google local search results and improved Live-View
  • Ability to track the location of a scene and immediately go there via Map-View
  • Improved performance and stability of the client app as well as usability improvements

Don't miss out on the upcoming "Favorite Scene" contest and your chance win some great prizes! We will announce the details of the contest when version 1.5 is released in the iPhone App Store.
